Since jQuery is releasing new versions regularly, you can (and should) update the jQuery version used in your osCommerce store regularly too. This is a very easy process, using mini template system, you will not need to modify any files. The whole process won’t take you more than 3 minutes
Please note, that mini template system version 1.4.02 include already jQuery version 1.8.0, so you don’t need to update this, till a newer jQuery version is released
1. Download jQuery
Go to the jQuery website and download the latest version using the button on the top right. Best is you choose the minified “production version”.
Save the file to your computer without changing anything at the filename. The file saved on your computer should be something like
Please note the naming conversion that should be kept: jquery-version.min.js
2. upload the new jQuery version to your server
Use your favorite FTP program to upload the new file to following location
This folder may include older jQuery versions, please do not delete anything, just add the new file beside the others. Your folder will look something like this (the new file is marked in orange on the image)
If you don’t have an FTP program by hand, you can do the same via your host cPanel. Please contact if you need instructions on how to do this
3. activate the new version
That’s the most easy part thanks to mini template system. All you need to do is, to go to the mini template system area of your osCommece administration panel, click “edit” on the template you want to use the new jQuery version, select it from the drop down menu, and save the settings
Please make sure that everything work fine on your website before leaving the jQuery version in place
